How to configure Extensiv 3PL Warehouse Manager (ThreePLRest) in techSHIP [Guide]
Extensiv 3PL Warehouse Manager, formerly 3PL Central, connects to techSHIP through the ThreePLRest integration. This article covers connection requirements, location settings, order import behavior, and the Client Account options used to update and close orders in Extensiv.
Onboarding Requirements
Collect the following information before configuring the connection.
DATA ELEMENT | SOURCE AND PURPOSE |
|---|---|
3PL Key | Provided by Extensiv in the API credential file. Identifies the 3PL instance and is also referred to as the TPL GUID. |
3PL client ID | Provided by Extensiv in the API credential file. Identifies the API client. |
3PL client secret | Provided by Extensiv in the API credential file. Authenticates the API client. |
Facility ID | Provided by the customer. The numeric identifier of the warehouse facility in Extensiv. |
3PL User login ID or 3PL user login | Optional user selection, provided by the customer. Specify either the user login ID or the username. If neither is supplied, the integration uses user login ID |
UOM on 3PL side | Confirm the measurement system used in Extensiv: Imperial or Metric. |
Connection Configuration
Select the location connected to Extensiv, then open Settings → My Location. Access to My Location requires location administrator permissions.
WMS Tab
Enter the 3PL Key, Facility ID, 3PL client ID, and 3PL client secret using the information collected during onboarding.
If a specific user is required, configure 3PL User login ID or 3PL user login. Leave the other field empty. If both are empty, confirm with your Extensiv administrator that the default user login ID 1 is appropriate.
Set UOM on 3PL side to match Extensiv:
Imperial: Weights in pounds and dimensions in inches.
Metric: Weights in kilograms and dimensions in centimeters.
An incorrect UOM on 3PL side selection can cause incorrect weight and dimension conversions, inaccurate rates, and overcharges.
Set 3PL Sandbox for the intended environment. Enable it for the Extensiv sandbox at box.secure-wms.com; leave it unchecked for production at secure-wms.com. Use credentials authorized for that environment.
Click Save to apply the location settings.
Additional Settings
WMS Tab
Configure the following options in My Location, under the WMS tab.
Order Import
FIELD | PURPOSE |
|---|---|
Do not load item info (REST) | Skips item-master lookups during order import, reducing API requests to Extensiv. Leave this unchecked when the import requires item-master data, including UPC and manufacturer product identifiers. |
Load allocation details | Loads detailed allocation information with imported order lines, including available warehouse locations, pallet identifiers, lot numbers, serial numbers, and expiration dates. |
Load pallet carton numbers By SecondaryUnit | Imports the item's inventory-units-per-secondary-unit value with package lines when item information is loaded. This requires Do not load item info (REST) to be unchecked. |
ThreePL split line by receiver id when in merge mode | Splits imported lines by receiver ID when orders are imported in merge mode. |
Order Updates
FIELD | PURPOSE |
|---|---|
Finalize date | Determines the confirmation date sent when an order is closed in Extensiv. Manifest uses the order ship date when available; otherwise, it uses the current date and time. Current always uses the current date and time. The location time zone is applied. |
Utilize 3PL Pack date setter | Updates the packing date in Extensiv after package updates, provided the order is not already closed. |
Use 3PL PackageDef Update | Assigns the matching Extensiv package definition during package updates when the techSHIP package description matches the definition name. |
Pre-tax shipping charge on update | Uses the pre-tax shipping charge when updating freight in Extensiv. When unchecked, the update uses the shipping charge including tax when available. Applicable markup is included in the freight update. |
Prefer public shipping charge in WMS update (when supported by carrier) | Uses the public shipping charge instead of the negotiated shipping charge for freight updates. Confirm that the selected carrier supplies a usable public charge before enabling it. |
Allow close on label generation | Enables the location-level prerequisite for closing orders when labels are generated. The Client Account must also have Close Orders and Close Orders On Label Generation enabled. |
Async confirmer | Uses Extensiv asynchronous order confirmation when closing orders. When unchecked, the integration uses the standard confirmation operation. |
Wms trace | Records detailed integration request and response information for troubleshooting. |
The Pre-tax shipping charge on update and Prefer public shipping charge in WMS update (when supported by carrier) settings apply when Update Freight is enabled in the Client Account.
Click Save after changing location settings.
Product Identifiers
During order import, techSHIP retrieves the item's UPC and manufacturer product identifier from the Extensiv item master when item information is loaded. A missing manufacturer product identifier remains empty; the integration does not substitute the SKU.
Leave Do not load item info (REST) unchecked when these identifiers are needed. Maintain the values on the items in Extensiv before importing orders.
Item synchronization also imports these identifiers into the techSHIP client item catalog. Updating existing catalog items requires the synchronization to include existing items.
Prices on Split Lines
When passthrough line prices are enabled for the client, a fixed discount for an Extensiv order line is distributed using the original order-line quantity. Splitting that line across receivers, cartons, or allocations does not apply the full discount again to each resulting row.
Insurance
The Extensiv insurance request is imported into the techSHIP order. A missing insurance flag is treated as no insurance request.
For an insured order that is not split by SKU, a positive insurance amount from Extensiv populates an otherwise empty declared value. The integration does not calculate an insured value from merchandise totals. Configured mappings can override the imported declared value.
Ensure an insured order has a valid declared value on the order or its packages before processing. Insurance-provider selection follows the applicable techSHIP account configuration.
Client Account Configuration
Open the applicable client's Billing Account Settings.
Integrations Tab
The Extensiv section controls which shipment results are sent to the Integrated system and when those updates occur.
FIELD | PURPOSE |
|---|---|
Override Update Time | Uses a Client Account update window instead of the Baseline Account window. When enabled, configure Update Start Time and Update End Time. |
Tracking Update Field | Selects where the order-level tracking number is written in Extensiv: Tracking Number, Bill Of Lading, or Both. Selecting Bill Of Lading writes the tracking number into that field; it does not generate a shipping document. |
Do Not Update Carrier | Preserves the existing carrier and service information in Extensiv instead of replacing it during shipment updates. |
Do Not Update Packages | Skips package updates to Extensiv. Use this when package records should remain unchanged by the integration. |
Close Orders | Enables closing orders in Extensiv when the shipment workflow reaches the applicable closing step. |
Update Orders | Enables shipment updates without closing orders. This option is displayed when Close Orders is unchecked. |
Update Freight | Enables shipping charge updates in Extensiv. This option is displayed when Close Orders or Update Orders is enabled. |
Close Orders On Label Generation | When available and enabled, closes orders in Extensiv when labels are generated, instead of waiting for manifest finalization. Requires Close Orders, the location-level Allow close on label generation setting, and an integration that reports support for this operation. |
GL Account # | Supplies the general ledger account number included with the freight charge sent to Extensiv when Update Freight is enabled. |
Update Orders and Update Freight are separate settings. Their visibility changes as the order-update and closing options are selected.
For closing on label generation, save Allow close on label generation in My Location, then open the Client Account's Integrations tab. Enable Close Orders and, when displayed, Close Orders On Label Generation.
Click Save to apply the Client Account settings, then continue with the standard shipping workflow.
Troubleshooting
Wrong environment or unexpected authentication failure: Check 3PL Sandbox in My Location → WMS. Confirm the selected environment and credentials before retrying.
Connection credentials: If the connection fails, check the 3PL Key, 3PL client ID, and 3PL client secret against the credential file supplied by Extensiv. Confirm the Facility ID with the customer's warehouse administrator.
User selection: In My Location, configure at most one of 3PL User login ID and 3PL user login. If neither is configured, confirm that default user login ID
1is appropriate.Order belongs to another facility: Compare the order's facility in Extensiv with Facility ID in My Location. The integration rejects an order whose facility does not match the configured location.
Incorrect weights, dimensions, or rates: Compare UOM on 3PL side with the measurement system used in Extensiv. Correct the location setting before importing additional orders.
Missing item product identifiers: Check the item-master values in Extensiv and confirm that Do not load item info (REST) is unchecked. The integration does not substitute the SKU for a missing manufacturer product identifier.
Insured order has no declared value: Check the insurance amount supplied by Extensiv and the declared values on the techSHIP order and packages. A merchandise total is not used as an automatic insured-value fallback.
Label-generation closing option is missing: Check that Allow close on label generation was saved for the same location and that Close Orders is selected in the Client Account. If Close Orders On Label Generation remains unavailable after reopening the account, ask Techdinamics Support to verify the deployed integration's capability settings.
Package information is not updated: Check Do Not Update Packages in the Client Account's Integrations tab. Enabling this option prevents package updates even when order updates are enabled.
Shipping charges are missing or unexpected: Check Update Freight, the location's tax and public-charge settings, and any configured update window. If public-charge updates are enabled, confirm that the carrier returned a usable public charge.
