Information to be Provided
The following credentials and data points are mandatory to connect to Better Trucks. Ensure you have these items available before starting the setup:
DATA ELEMENT | SOURCE (HOW TO OBTAIN) |
|---|---|
API key | Obtain a valid key from Better Trucks for the environment you will use. Your carrier account must be enabled. |
Sender details | Provide your sender name, company, street address, city, state, ZIP code, and country. These details are supplied by your organization. |
Specifications and Constraints
Operational Details
Better Trucks supports domestic and regional small parcel shipping within the United States. International shipments and PO Box delivery are not supported.
The integration provides Same Day Delivery, Next Day Delivery, and Express Delivery services. Availability depends on the rates Better Trucks returns for the shipment. Time in Transit is available when the carrier includes it in the rate response.
Package data: Include at least one package. Each package must have a length, width, height, and weight greater than zero.
Address data: Both the ship-from and ship-to addresses must include a street address, city, state, postal code, and country.
Phone length: Ship-from and ship-to phone numbers must not exceed 26 characters.
Return address: Configuring a return address does not enable return shipments or return labels.
Paper manifest: The integration does not provide a carrier paper manifest.

Carrier Tab
Better Trucks Credentials
Under Better Trucks setup, enter the carrier-provided API key.
Use credentials for the environment selected in Usage, under the Baseline Account's General tab. Production usage connects to the production API; test usage connects to the sandbox API.
Sender Address
Under Sender address, complete:
Sender name and Sender company
Address 1, plus Address 2 and Address 3 when needed
City, State/province, Zip, and Country
Enter the state and country even though these fields may not be marked as required in the interface; shipment processing validates both.
Better Trucks V2 uses the configured sender identity rather than automatically substituting the client's name.
Labels Tab
Formats: Supported label formats are ZPL, PDF, and PNG. Use a supported format in Mode.
Multi-package PDF output: The carrier can return a single PDF containing the labels for all packages. Review the complete document when printing a multi-package shipment.

Carrier Tab
Service and Age Verification
Under Service, configure:
Service code: Select the service to use for this Client Account. The carrier service codes are
SAME_DAY,NEXT_DAY, andEXPRESS.Override WMS service code: Enable this option when the configured Client Account service should replace the service received from the Integrated system.
Over 18 required: Select Default to follow the order's age-verification selection, Enable to require verification for this Client Account, or Disable to turn it off.
Over 21 required: Select Default to follow the order's adult-signature selection, Enable to require verification for this Client Account, or Disable to turn it off.
Sender Address Override
Under Sender address override, enable Override sender address when this Client Account needs a different sender.
Complete Sender name, Sender company, Address 1, City, State/province, Zip, and Country. Use Address 2, Phone, and Email when applicable.
An explicit ship-from address on the order takes precedence over this Client Account override.
Return Address
Under Return address, enable Override return address to send a client-specific return address to Better Trucks.
Complete Return name, Address 1, City, State/province, Zip, and Country. Use Return company, Address 2, Phone, and Email when applicable.
General Tab
Enable Deny PO Boxes to check the destination address before processing. This check uses address text; review the destination when an address is flagged.
Specifying Rate Shopping Service Codes
If you use Rate Shopping, you can restrict which Better Trucks services are included in the comparison.
For detailed instructions on how to configure this, see: Include or exclude Service Codes when Rate Shopping [Step-by-Step Guide].
[ADD SYNC BLOCK: Type /sync and select "TS - Carrier - 4"]
In the order's Carrier tab, review the following settings:
Service code: Select the service for the shipment.
Signature required: Enable when delivery requires a signature.
Over 18 required: Enable when the shipment requires age verification at 18, subject to the Client Account setting.
Over 21 required: Enable when the shipment requires age verification at 21, subject to the Client Account setting.
Perishable: Enable when the shipment contains perishable goods.
Ship-to address is residential: Set the residential designation for the destination.
Skip address validation: Use only when a valid street address has been incorrectly identified as a PO Box. This bypasses the techSHIP PO Box check; Better Trucks still rejects unsupported destinations.
Click Save to apply the order-level changes. After the Order is updated, continue with the standard shipping workflow.
Troubleshooting
Authentication or missing-key error: Review API key in the Baseline Account's Carrier tab and confirm with Better Trucks that the key is valid for the environment selected in Usage, under General.
Missing address or invalid package data: Correct the ship-from and ship-to addresses and provide positive dimensions and weight for every package. If a phone number is rejected, reduce it to no more than 26 characters.
No eligible rate or unsupported service: Review Service code in the Client Account or order and any Rate Shopping restrictions. Confirm that Better Trucks serves the destination using the selected service.
Unexpected sender on the label: Review the Baseline Sender address, the Client Account's Override sender address, and any explicit ship-from address on the order. The order address takes precedence, and V2 does not automatically use the client's name.
PO Box validation failure: Correct an actual PO Box destination to a supported street address. For a valid street address incorrectly flagged by techSHIP, review Skip address validation in the order's Carrier tab.
Age-verification surcharge absent from an estimate: For an existing Client Account whose Over 21 required setting has never been saved, explicitly select and save Default, Enable, or Disable as appropriate before rating. An unset setting can cause the estimate to omit the surcharge even when the order requires age verification at 21.
Missing or invalid label after processing: Review the processing error and confirm that Mode, in the Baseline Account's Labels tab, uses a supported format. If the carrier transaction was created, reconcile or void it before processing again.
