Specifications and Constraints
Operational Details
This integration processes Small Parcel shipments through USPS, with domestic and international services. Multi-package orders receive package-level labels and tracking information where the selected service provides tracking.
Customs documentation: Stamps.com generates customs documents with applicable international labels, including CP72 forms. Provide complete customs information for each package and print all returned label and customs pages.
Ground Advantage: Select USPS GROUND ADVANTAGE. The legacy
US-PSservice is excluded from rate results. Update orders and Integrated system service mappings that still select the legacy service.Contact names and addresses: Both the sender and recipient must have a name containing a first and last name, a street address, state/province, postal code, and country.
International shipments: Every package must contain customs lines, and every customs line must contain a harmonized code. The recipient's email address and phone number are also required.
Return service selection: USPS PAY-ON-USE RETURN (RETURN LABEL ONLY) is intended for return labels. Exclude it from outbound rate shopping when it should not be considered.
Configuring a Baseline Account
A Baseline Account serves as the fundamental connection point between techSHIP and the carrier's system. It acts as a template that holds the credentials and fundamental properties required to process shipments.
The techSHIP AI Assistant is available from the Carrier page for supported Carrier configuration tasks. For detailed conceptual information and advanced configuration, refer to 📄 techSHIP AI Assistant: Overview & Availability [Information].
Adding a Carrier
Before adding an account, you must ensure the Carrier entity is available for your location.
Click My Carriers from the left menu under the Carriers category.
Click Add Carrier.

Select the desired Carrier.
You may encounter additional messages depending on the carrier status or your plan:
Subscription Required (⭐): If the carrier has a star icon, you will see a message stating "To use this carrier, a subscription upgrade is required." Press Contact to Upgrade to proceed.

Carrier Suspended: If the carrier has not been used for an extended period, you will see a message stating “This carrier is currently on hold...” Click Request Assistance to reactivate it.

Setup Fee Waived: If a carrier from the same carrier group is already installed in your location, you can add this carrier without incurring additional fees.

If needed, update the carrier Name.
Click Add Carrier.

If the purchase confirmation appears, complete the following steps:
Review the purchase notice and any applicable charge information.
Optionally enter a PO Number.
Select I am authorized to complete this purchase on behalf of my organization.
Click Purchase to confirm the Carrier addition.

Once the Carrier is added, you will be automatically redirected to the Carrier page to continue setting it up.
Enter the Code of the Carrier as it appears in your host system.
The Code of the Carrier must match exactly the value defined in the host system. Any discrepancy (including casing or extra spaces) may prevent the carrier from working correctly.
Click Save.

If your facility utilizes the centralized Pickup Schedule, we highly recommend adding this new carrier to your calendar now. While not required to process labels, this ensures accurate induction metrics for your Insights dashboards. To learn more, see 📄 Understanding the Centralized Pickup Schedule & Expected Induction Logic [Information].
Adding a Baseline Account
From the Carrier page, click Add Account to create a new Baseline Account.

You will be redirected to the Baseline Account page to complete the setup.
Entering incorrect values will prevent the system from generating shipping labels.
General Tab
In the General tab, define the administrative properties:

Name: Enter a descriptive name for the account.
Enter a descriptive name based on unique properties. E.g.:
Carrier Name - Account Number (CarrierX - 123456789)

Carrier Name
Usage: Select the most suitable option:
Test: Used for sandbox or onboarding purposes.
Production: Used for live shipping.
Keep the Status field set to its default Active value. An account must be Active to remain fully editable. For detailed conceptual information on account statuses, refer to 📄 How to Inactivate and Activate a Carrier Baseline Account [Step-by-Step Guide].

Finalizing the Setup
Once you have entered the required information, click Save.

After you save the Baseline Account, check whether the Registration tab or a registration status badge is available.

If neither is available, the Carrier does not use this Registration workflow in techSHIP. If registration is still pending, open the Registration tab and press Registration, then complete 📄 How to Register a Carrier Baseline Account [Step-by-Step Guide] before creating shipments.
From the Carrier page, you can now see the Baseline Account listed with the administrative status Active. The Active status is separate from the account's registration status.

The Baseline Account configuration is now saved. You can continue with Configuring a Client Account below to assign the Baseline Account to a specific Client.

Carrier Tab
Service and Package Settings
Service code: Select the service to use when an imported order does not specify one. Use [ECO] when the account should select the least expensive eligible service.
Override WMS Service Code: Enable to replace the service supplied by the Integrated system with the configured Service code.
Package Type: Select the packaging used for this account. Use [From Dimensions] to determine the package category from its dimensions, or [Mapped box name] when using package mappings.
Non Delivery: Select Return or Abandon to specify the non-delivery instruction for applicable CP72 customs forms. Undefined leaves that instruction unspecified.
Address Validation
Address validation: Select the validation level appropriate for the client. None skips the preliminary address-validation check.
Bypass cleanse address: Enable when carrier address cleansing should be bypassed during label creation. This is separate from the preliminary check controlled by Address validation.
Sender Details
Sender name: Enter the sender's first and last name.
Sender company: Enter the sender's company.
Override sender address: Enable when the client uses a different induction address from the Baseline Account. Complete Address 1, City, State/province, Zip, and Country, plus Address 2 and Address 3 when needed. Use Phone and Email for the client's contact details.
Without an address override, the Client Account uses the Baseline Account's induction address. An order-specific ship-from address takes precedence when supplied.
Specifying Rate Shopping Service Codes
Use the Client Account's Rates & Markups tab to include or exclude services from rate shopping. To prevent a return service from being selected for outbound shipments, exclude USPS PAY-ON-USE RETURN (RETURN LABEL ONLY).
For detailed instructions on how to configure this, see: Include or exclude Service Codes when Rate Shopping [Step-by-Step Guide].
Label References
This integration supports four reference values. Configure Reference 1, Reference 2, Reference 3, and Reference 4 in the Labels group on the Client Account's General tab.
The printed memo uses Reference 1 and Reference 2. Enable Print Memo on the Client Account's Carrier tab when those values should appear in the memo.
For a comprehensive guide on how to use label references, see: Using order References in your labels [Step-by-Step guide].
Finalizing the Setup
Once you have entered the required information, click Save.

With the account configured and requirements verified, you can now proceed to process orders as described below.
Configuring an Order
The steps described in this section are not required for carrier setup, and they are offered as an optional review if further order-level configuration is required.
Follow the UI Navigation steps in 📄 05 - How to edit an order’s information - [Step-by-Step guide], using the carrier-specific values provided in this guide.
Configure shipment-specific options on the Order's Carrier tab.
Service
Service code: Select the service for the shipment. For an eligible return shipment, select USPS PAY-ON-USE RETURN (RETURN LABEL ONLY).
Declared Value: Enter the shipment value to use when requesting carrier insurance.
Skip address validation: Enable to skip the preliminary address-validation check for this order.
Confirmation
Signature Required: Enable when signature confirmation is needed for the selected service.
Insurance: Enable when requesting carrier insurance, and provide Declared Value in the Service group. When a separate insurance provider is configured on the Client Account, that provider's configuration applies instead.
Dangerous Goods, Fragile, and Perishable: Select the applicable handling options for the shipment. Availability depends on the selected service and carrier acceptance.
Customs
For international shipments, complete the applicable Passport Number, Passport Issue Date, Passport Expiry Date, Sender VAT Number, Sender IOSS Number, Invoice number, and Internal transaction number fields.
When both Sender VAT Number and Sender IOSS Number are populated, Sender VAT Number takes precedence as the sender's customs reference.
Click Save to apply the order-level changes. After the Order is updated, continue with the standard shipping workflow.
Troubleshooting
Missing credentials: If processing reports that Username or Password is not set, enter the missing value on the Baseline Account's Carrier tab. For authentication errors, verify the credentials with the account owner.
Invalid sender or recipient name: For
Ship from name must contain first name and last name.or the equivalent recipient error, provide both name components. Check Sender name on the Client Account and any order-specific ship-from information.Address validation failure: Review the candidate addresses in the error and correct the recipient's address on the order. Check the Client Account's Address validation setting to understand the applied validation level.
International processing blocked: Check every package for customs lines and every line for a harmonized code. Add the recipient's email address and phone number before processing.
Package dimensions rejected: Confirm that the order's dimensions match the selected Package Type. When using [From Dimensions], the longest side plus twice the width plus twice the height must not exceed 130 inches.
Ground Advantage service unavailable: On the Order's Carrier tab, replace a legacy service selection with USPS GROUND ADVANTAGE. Correct the corresponding Integrated system mapping so new orders use the current service.
Unexpected return service in rate shopping: Exclude USPS PAY-ON-USE RETURN (RETURN LABEL ONLY) on the Client Account's Rates & Markups tab when rating outbound shipments.
Reference memo missing: Check Reference 1 and Reference 2 on the Client Account's General tab, then confirm Print Memo is enabled on its Carrier tab.
