How to configure Asendia USA (ASENDIAUSV2) in techSHIP [Guide]

Last updated: October 28, 2026

Asendia USA uses the ASENDIAUSV2 plugin for its migrated integration. The EU product identifier requirements below also apply to existing ASENDIAUS connections.

This guide explains how to add and configure this carrier connection, review its available carrier-specific settings, and understand the shipment requirements and operational constraints that apply.

Carrier Requirements and Specifications

This section summarizes onboarding requirements and lists confirmed carrier-specific constraints.

To review all supported carriers and their specific requirements, see: 📄 techSHIP supported Carriers - Master List [Guides List].

Onboarding Requirements

The Asendia USA integration supports:

  • Void

  • Rate Shopping

  • Label References

  • Electronic manifest submission

Information to be Provided

Have the following credentials and account details available before starting the setup:

DATA ELEMENT

SOURCE (HOW TO OBTAIN)

API username and password

Provided by Asendia USA for the shipping connection.

API key

Provided by Asendia USA.

API data source

Provided by Asendia USA.

Processing location

Confirm the processing location assigned to your account with Asendia USA.

Account number

Obtain the account number to use for the Client Account from Asendia USA.

Induction address and contact information

Provide the warehouse induction address, sender identity, email, and phone for the connection.

If your account uses a sub-account, obtain its number from Asendia USA.

Specifications and Constraints

Operational Details

Asendia USA processes international parcel shipments using its ePAQ services. Service availability depends on the account, processing location, and destination.

  • Currency: Package and item values must be in USD. An explicit non-USD currency on the order or Client Account prevents rating and shipment processing.

  • Package contents: Each package must contain item details, including SKU, description, a positive unit price, and a positive whole-number quantity. Package weight must be greater than zero.

  • Customs value: The package customs value is calculated from its item prices and quantities.

  • Manifest: Finalizing the manifest submits the dispatch closure to Asendia USA.

EU Product Identifiers

For shipments processed from November 1, 2026 at 00:00 UTC, every item on a shipment from outside the EU into an EU member state must have:

ITEM DATA

PURPOSE

REQUIREMENT

SKU

Merchant product identifier.

Required; up to 32 characters after trimming.

Manufacturer Product Identifier

Manufacturer product identifier.

Required; up to 32 characters after trimming.

UPC

Standardized product identifier.

Optional; sent when valid and available, up to 32 characters after trimming.

A product identifier cannot be blank or consist only of a period (.). Values are trimmed; invalid values are omitted rather than shortened or replaced with placeholders. For shipments subject to the requirement, an invalid SKU or Manufacturer Product Identifier prevents processing and the error identifies the affected items.

Provide the manufacturer's identifier separately; SKU is not substituted for Manufacturer Product Identifier. The requirement applies to both consumer and business recipients. Non-EU destinations and shipments entirely within the EU do not trigger this new mandatory-identifier check.

Configuring a Baseline Account

A Baseline Account serves as the fundamental connection point between techSHIP and the carrier's system. It acts as a template that holds the credentials and fundamental properties required to process shipments.

The techSHIP AI Assistant is available from the Carrier page for supported Carrier configuration tasks. For detailed conceptual information and advanced configuration, refer to 📄 techSHIP AI Assistant: Overview & Availability [Information].

Adding a Carrier

Before adding an account, you must ensure the Carrier entity is available for your location.

  1. Click My Carriers from the left menu under the Carriers category.

  2. Click Add Carrier.

  3. Select the desired Carrier.

You may encounter additional messages depending on the carrier status or your plan:

  • Subscription Required (⭐): If the carrier has a star icon, you will see a message stating "To use this carrier, a subscription upgrade is required." Press Contact to Upgrade to proceed.

  • Carrier Suspended: If the carrier has not been used for an extended period, you will see a message stating “This carrier is currently on hold...” Click Request Assistance to reactivate it.

  • Setup Fee Waived: If a carrier from the same carrier group is already installed in your location, you can add this carrier without incurring additional fees.

  1. If needed, update the carrier Name.

  2. Click Add Carrier.

If the purchase confirmation appears, complete the following steps:

  • Review the purchase notice and any applicable charge information.

  • Optionally enter a PO Number.

  • Select I am authorized to complete this purchase on behalf of my organization.

  • Click Purchase to confirm the Carrier addition.

Preview

Once the Carrier is added, you will be automatically redirected to the Carrier page to continue setting it up.

  1. Enter the Code of the Carrier as it appears in your host system.

The Code of the Carrier must match exactly the value defined in the host system. Any discrepancy (including casing or extra spaces) may prevent the carrier from working correctly.

  1. Click Save.

If your facility utilizes the centralized Pickup Schedule, we highly recommend adding this new carrier to your calendar now. While not required to process labels, this ensures accurate induction metrics for your Insights dashboards. To learn more, see 📄 Understanding the Centralized Pickup Schedule & Expected Induction Logic [Information].

Adding a Baseline Account

From the Carrier page, click Add Account to create a new Baseline Account.

You will be redirected to the Baseline Account page to complete the setup.

Entering incorrect values will prevent the system from generating shipping labels.

General Tab

In the General tab, define the administrative properties:

  • Name: Enter a descriptive name for the account.

Enter a descriptive name based on unique properties. E.g.:

  • Carrier Name - Account Number (CarrierX - 123456789)

  • Carrier Name - Consolidator Name (CarrierY - MyConsolidator)

  • Carrier Name

  • Usage: Select the most suitable option:

    • Test: Used for sandbox or onboarding purposes.

    • Production: Used for live shipping.

Keep the Status field set to its default Active value. An account must be Active to remain fully editable. For detailed conceptual information on account statuses, refer to 📄 How to Inactivate and Activate a Carrier Baseline Account [Step-by-Step Guide].

Carrier Tab

Connection Settings

  • Username: Enter the API username provided by Asendia USA.

  • Password: Enter the corresponding API password.

  • API key: Enter the key assigned to the connection.

  • API data source: Enter the data source assigned to the connection.

  • Processing location: Select the location confirmed by Asendia USA for the account.

Sender Address

Complete the Sender address group with the warehouse induction address and sender identity. Enter the connection's contact Email and Phone.

The Client Account can override the sender location. Sender identity can also be supplied by Client Account settings or the client identity; do not assume that the Baseline Account's name and company always appear on the shipment.

Labels Tab

Supported label formats: ZPL, PDF, and PNG.

The integration retains additional PDF or PNG label fragments returned by Asendia USA. Multiple ZPL fragments are combined.

Finalizing the Setup

Once you have entered the required information, click Save.

After you save the Baseline Account, check whether the Registration tab or a registration status badge is available.

If neither is available, the Carrier does not use this Registration workflow in techSHIP. If registration is still pending, open the Registration tab and press Registration, then complete 📄 How to Register a Carrier Baseline Account [Step-by-Step Guide] before creating shipments.

From the Carrier page, you can now see the Baseline Account listed with the administrative status Active. The Active status is separate from the account's registration status.

The Baseline Account configuration is now saved. You can continue with Configuring a Client Account below to assign the Baseline Account to a specific Client.

Configuring a Client Account

Adding an Account

Before adding a Client Account, ensure that the Client has been created. For instructions creating a Client, see: 📄 10 - How to create a Client profile [Step-by-Step guide].

  1. Click Clients from the left menu under the Clients section.

  2. Click the Edit icon for the desired Client.

  3. Click Add Accounts.

  4. Optionally, use the Search box to search by Baseline Account Name or Carrier.

  5. Select the Baseline Accounts that will serve as the foundation for your new Client Accounts.

  6. Click Add Accounts.

A toast notification will confirm the accounts were successfully assigned. Click the Refresh icon if recently added accounts are not displayed.

  1. Click Edit on each newly created account.

  2. Configure the available options in each tab (except Carrier).

For complete instructions on configuring this settings, see 📄 How to configure the Billing Account General Options tab [Step-by-Step guide].

Carrier Tab

Service and Account Settings

  • Service code: Select the service to use for this Client Account, or use the applicable Rate Shopping configuration.

  • Override WMS Service Code: Enable this option when the Client Account's service selection must replace the service received from the Integrated system.

  • Account number: Enter the Asendia USA account number to bill.

  • Sub account number: Enter the assigned sub-account number when applicable.

  • Default content description: Enter the package content description to use when the order does not provide one.

  • Default sender VAT number: Enter the sender VAT number to use when the order does not provide one.

  • Export type category: Select the default export purpose. An order-level selection takes precedence; otherwise, the integration uses this setting, with Merchandise as the fallback.

Sender Settings

Enable Override sender address when this Client Account needs a different sender location, and complete the displayed address fields.

Disabling Override sender address returns the location to the inherited address configuration. Stored Sender name and Sender company values can still affect the sender identity independently of this checkbox. Review these values when changing an existing override.

Specifying Rate Shopping Service Codes

Limit the services considered during Rate Shopping to those appropriate for the account and shipment.

For detailed instructions on how to configure this, see: Include or exclude Service Codes when Rate Shopping [Step-by-Step Guide].

Label References

Configure Reference 1, Reference 2, and Reference 3 in the Labels group of the Client Account's General tab. These three configured references are sent to Asendia USA, with a maximum of 50 characters each. Reference 4 is not sent by this integration.

For a comprehensive guide on how to use label references, see: Using order References in your labels [Step-by-Step guide].

Finalizing the Setup

Once you have entered the required information, click Save.

With the account configured and requirements verified, you can now proceed to process orders as described below.

Configuring an Order

The steps described in this section are not required for carrier setup, and they are offered as an optional review if further order-level configuration is required.

Follow the UI Navigation steps in 📄 05 - How to edit an order’s information - [Step-by-Step guide], using the carrier-specific values provided in this guide.

Carrier Tab

  • Service code: Select the service for the shipment.

  • Contents description: Enter an order-specific package description when it must replace Default content description.

  • Sender VAT number: Enter an order-specific sender VAT number when it must replace Default sender VAT number.

  • Receiver tax number: Enter the recipient's tax identifier when applicable.

  • Export type category: Select an order-specific export purpose when it differs from the Client Account default.

Packages Tab

Review each package's item data before processing. To enter or correct Manufacturer Product Identifier and UPC, open the item's Additional Fields dialog using its three-dot button.

For EU-bound orders, when the location has the client item catalog enabled, missing identifiers can be filled from the matching catalog SKU during processing. Existing item-level values take precedence.

Click Save to apply the order-level changes. After the Order is updated, continue with the standard shipping workflow.

Troubleshooting

  • Authentication failure: Compare Username, Password, API key, and API data source in the Baseline Account's Carrier tab with the connection details provided by Asendia USA.

  • Rates unavailable: Verify Account number in the Client Account and Processing location in the Baseline Account. Confirm with Asendia USA that the selected location and service support rating for the shipment destination.

  • Non-USD currency error: Correct the currency and monetary values supplied by the Integrated system. Also review the Client Account's currency configuration if the order does not specify a currency; the integration requires USD for both rates and shipping.

  • Missing or invalid EU product identifiers: Review the items named in the processing error. Correct SKU and Manufacturer Product Identifier, ensuring each contains a valid value of up to 32 characters. Use Additional Fields for the manufacturer identifier.

  • Package item validation error: In the order's Packages tab, verify that every package contains items with SKU, description, a positive unit price, and a positive whole-number quantity, and that its package weight is greater than zero.

  • Unexpected sender name or company: Review Sender name and Sender company in the Client Account's Carrier tab, including stored values when Override sender address is disabled. Check any order-specific sender address as well.

  • Reference too long: Shorten the value produced by Reference 1, Reference 2, or Reference 3 in the Client Account's General tab to 50 characters or fewer.

  • Requested label format missing: Review the Baseline Account's Labels tab and the processing error to identify which format was requested. Confirm that Asendia USA returned that format for the selected service.
